We welcome the Oversight Board’s decision today on this case which deals with an image posted by a Facebook user that dehumanizes a woman by likening her to a car and mocking both her physical appearance as well as her presence on dating websites and apps.
Upon initial review, Meta left this content up. However, after the board brought the case to our attention, we determined the content violates our Bullying and Harassment policy, as laid out in the Facebook Community Standards, and removed the content. Meta removes content that, among other things, attacks private figures with “attacks through negative physical descriptions” or makes “claims about sexual activity.”
There will be no further updates to this case.
